Invest Durham Collision Conference Custom Notebook

Submitted ByRegion of Durham

The Region of Durham’s Economic Development and Tourism division (Invest Durham), along with partners, attended one of the largest and fastest growing technology conferences in North America—Collision Conference—from June 26 to 29, 2023 at the Enercare Centre in Toronto.

The Invest Durham booth had a memorable presence. Project Arrow, the first all-Canadian, zero emission connected vehicle was the centrepiece of the pavilion. This helped demonstrate that Durham Region is the Clean Energy Capital of Canada and is a great place to invent, engineer and test clean, connected and electric technologies.

A branded notebook with a fully custom inside and outside cover that reinforced this message and reminded attendees of their experience at the booth was distributed at the conference.

The custom notebook achieved the following objectives:

  • Served as a long-term reminder post-conference that Durham Region is the Clean Energy Capital of Canada and has a strong next generation mobility sector. Collision attracts a diverse audience with industries ranging from advanced mobility, artificial intelligence, sustainability and clean tech, energy, agri-tech, and others. Hundreds of notebooks were distributed during the event to startups, investors, and partners within these industries from around the world.

  • Showcased Durham’s innovation community with a logo placement for 15 partners—Durham’s eight area municipalities, Durham College, Ontario Tech University, Trent University Durham GTA, Spark Centre, 1855 Technology Accelerator, Ontario Power Generation (OPG), and the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association’s (APMA) Project Arrow.

  • Assisted with communicating Durham’s location with a map on the back cover. Partners used the notebooks as a helpful tool during conversations to explain Durham’s proximity to Toronto to national and international attendees.
  • Provided an opportunity for brand awareness. The illustration style and map of Durham was intentionally included on both the booth and the notebooks to assist attendees with identifying the Invest Durham brand and connecting back to their experience at the booth after the conference.
  • Invited recipients to “Amp up your business in Canada’s Clean Energy Capital” and provided contact information to encourage continued conversation post-event.

Standard pre-made options available from suppliers were not able to meet the need of printing on both sides of the cover. To overcome this challenge, a local print vendor was engaged in the project who had the ability to assemble notebooks in-house, which allowed for printing on both sides of the cover. A blank sample was provided for review of the quality and size prior to ordering.

Collision is a sustainable conference and discourages the use of single-page flyers and non-recyclable items. The notebooks were designed to be compact at 4” x 5.75” to keep materials to a minimum and were made from recyclable paper. Plastic-free pens made from recycled paper and cornstarch were available for attendees alongside the notebooks.
