The Open House at TechPlace was a monumental event that celebrated the growth and prosperity of Burlington over the past year. TechPlace is a one stop destination for new and growing technology companies, and the place where technology, talent, and ideas come together to create and promote opportunities for economic growth, 100% led and supported by Burlington Economic Development Corporation’s (BEDC).
On Thursday May 24th BEDC welcomed over 150 guests to TechPlace for their 2018 Open House: Celebrating Burlington’s Prosperity. The target audience for this event was BEDC’s partners and key stakeholders including the realtor and developer community, established businesses and service providers, and innovation ecosystem players. This target was reached by over 150 visitors including key political players Burlington Mayor Rick Goldring and City Councilors. BEDC leveraged their Customer Relationship Management software to develop curated targeted email marketing campaigns in collaboration with social media promotion for marketing efforts.
The celebration began by showcasing BEDC’s partners including Mohawk College, Burlington Public Library and Haltech, Halton’s Regional Innovation Centre with engaging booths which featured a virtually reality demo, augmented reality and more. The evening concluded with a short formal presentation from BEDC Executive Director, Frank McKeown who presented a succinct presentation on Burlington’s key economic achievements in 2017 and highlighted TechPlace as a 2017 success, celebrating its first year of operations during the event. Since opening in June of 2017 TechPlace has welcomed over 5,000 visitors and hosted over 100 events and accepted 7 LaunchPad companies, all but one of LaunchPad company comes from outside of Burlington including two FDI companies from the UAE and Finland.
Richard Obuhowich President of 3terra followed McKeown’s presentation with an engaging presentation on his business challenges and emphasized the help BEDC and TechPlace have provided them. 3terra was TechPlace’s second LaunchPad company who located to Burlington for the resources available at TechPlace. Since moving into TechPlace 3terra doubled their number of customers, expanded their team and increased sales across Ontario.
TechPlace’s open house acts as a reminder of how the space is quickly becoming an incredibly valuable resource for the surrounding community. The night was filled with networking, interactive presentation by our partners and well as virtual reality put on by our sponsors.
