Abstract:

Project Purpose

Question: How do you excite and educate a community about their 100 plus years of mining history?
Answer: With a visceral and visually information video that poses the question “Do you know what is made in North Bay?”

Produced to help launch North Bay Mining Week 2018, this video introduces the Canadian Institute for Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), the leading professional association for the minerals industry. The local branch, Northern Gateway Branch was founded in 1977 and is the 6th largest branch in Canada by member population.

Objectives
The goal of the video is to celebrate and communicate to our community the many companies and people in North Bay that support the mining industry. With more than 65 firms involved in the Mining Supply and Services sector, North Bay products and services are exported across the globe. To that end, the video features 28 local firms, with a cross section of local entrepreneurs to major multinationals. The video was created with the local community in mind; however the piece will also be helpful when dealing with
prospective investors in the sector, government colleagues and networks involved in investment attraction and partner organizations abroad when promoting collaboration opportunities with Canadian mining companies.
Launched at the Annual Mining Week luncheon that draws industry representatives from across the region, the video served as an introduction to this year’s key note speaker Angela Hamlyn, Executive Director of CIM National following the official Proclamation by the Mayor. The video was further shared across multiple media platforms including North Bay Mining Week and Invest North Bay social accounts and by community partners and companies.
This highly sustainable message and video will continue to be shared broadly within our region as a key marketing tool and at upcoming industry events such as the annual Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) which typically draws 25,000 in attendees from over 135 countries along with the recently printed North Bay Mining brochure and rack cards used in client packages and at industry events.
