Executive Director – Battle River Alliance for Economic Development


The Battle River Alliance for Economic Development (BRAED) is seeking an Executive Director to provide strategic planning, leadership and management of BRAED projects and initiatives across East-Central Alberta. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to support efforts to retain and grow businesses and attract new investment to the region.  The Executive Director will also ensure that strategies are developed and implemented to promote the Battle River Region as an exceptional place to live, visit and do business

BRAED is a provincially-mandated Regional Economic Development Alliance serving 25 communities in East-Central Alberta.  Member communities work collaboratively to address community economic development issues from a regional perspective.  BRAED works to provide tools and resources to member communities and partners that help to increase the economic development capacity in the region.

The Battle River Region has a population of over 60,000 residents.  As an economic development organization, BRAED’s main source of revenue is from annual membership fees and a Provincial government multi-year funding agreement.

This role offers an opportunity to work with a high degree of autonomy and creativity to develop projects and programs that directly benefit the citizens of the BRAED region.


The ideal candidate will bring a thorough knowledge of economic development best practices, strategic planning, relationship management and management principles. Proven experience (5+ years) in business development and economic development with at least 3 years at a management level. Post-secondary education in business, marketing, economic development, planning, engineering or a related field. Economic Development certification is preferred.

The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal and communication skills, combined with experience in working with elected officials.   They will build and maintain trusted relationships with member municipalities and a variety of internal and external stakeholders. They are an innovator who is able to bring a strong background in strategic planning, financial management, board development and a solid understanding of non-profit organizational management to the role.

Travel within a large geographic area requires a valid Class 5 Driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.  The position also requires competency in standard Microsoft Office applications; MS Word, Excel, and MS Power Point.


Forty (40) hours per week Monday – Friday. There is a requirement of additional and evening and occasional weekend hours to meet position expectations.


Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
