Whitby is the ultimate events destination – with over 200 events and festivals in the municipality per year, there’s always something to do – and Whitby Tourism wanted to ensure both residents and tourists knew it. The Whitby Summer Events Video was thoughtfully created to achieve two primary goals: to invigorate local and regional tourism by promoting Whitby’s captivating spring, summer and fall events and to create a sense of community pride and engagement among residents. The video serves as a visual narrative that conveys the town’s vibrant culture, and the excitement of its diverse summer offerings and event locations. Through this promotional video, the Town aspired to boost tourism, stimulate the local economy, promote a variety of events, and foster a deeper connection between residents and their town.
The video was created by local business and Whitby Chamber member, North Brothers Inc., and was shared on the Town’s YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter (X) channels. To ensure further reach, the video was distributed to key stakeholders, as well as third-party event organizers, to share on their own channels.
The effectiveness of the campaign was gauged through various metrics, including increased website traffic, social media engagement, and event attendance numbers during the summer events. The Summer Events Video is sustainable and has a long shelf life that can be used for future event seasons, where additions of new events footage can be easily added.
The video’s ability to showcase the unique appeal of Whitby’s spring, summer and fall events resonated with both residents and tourists resulting in enhanced community participation and higher tourism numbers. While we’re still in the midst of our events season and KPIs are still being collected, our community and signature events have seen record crowds in 2024 (larger than 2019 numbers pre-COVID).
