Purpose of Project
The primary objective of TechPlace.ca is to serve as a comprehensive digital hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in Burlington. Redeveloped in partnership with BTA Design in 2023, the website aims to provide an accessible and user-friendly platform that connects entrepreneurs with essential resources, services, and networks. Our mission is to foster entrepreneurial activity, nurture talent, and leverage technology to build a stronger regional economy. The anticipated outcomes include increased engagement from the entrepreneurial community, higher membership applications, and enhanced visibility of Burlington as a thriving innovation hub.
Effectiveness / Meeting Objectives
Since its relaunch, TechPlace.ca has demonstrated significant effectiveness in meeting its objectives. From January 2024 to June 2024, the website experienced a 66% increase in page views, validating its growing relevance and usefulness. Additionally, there has been a notable rise in membership applications, showcasing the website’s success in attracting and retaining users. The virtual video tour, detailed information on available spaces, and resources for international entrepreneurs through the Soft Landing program have been particularly well-received, further validating the website’s impact.
Challenges & Changes Made
One of the primary challenges in redeveloping TechPlace.ca was ensuring that it catered to a diverse user base with varying needs and technical proficiencies. To address this, we incorporated a responsive design and an intuitive navigation system that makes information easily accessible. User testing and feedback was integral to the iterative design process, allowing us to make necessary adjustments and enhancements. Integrating a member sign-in portal was also a complex task that required collaboration with stakeholders and technical partners.
Target Audience
The target audience for TechPlace.ca includes a broad spectrum of users within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This encompasses tech-savvy individuals aged 25-45, including startup founders, investors, business mentors, and academic institutions. Our users are primarily located within the GTHA but also include international entrepreneurs through our Soft Landing program.

The most unique and innovative element of techplace.ca is the member portal, empowering members to book meeting rooms, event space, technology equipment, get up to date information on a curated news feed, see upcoming events, network with other members, and explore community perks.
