Nautical Village Postcard

Destination Pickering, part of Pickering’s Economic Development & Strategic Projects, created the Nautical Village postcard to promote the hospitality sector of a waterfront neighbourhood and raise awareness of its small business community.

The postcard was launched during the Spring Fling event in April 2025 and was met with much enthusiasm from the local businesses.

Over the years, the business community at Nautical Village has shown great pride in their area but faced great difficulty during shoulder season. As a result, staff launched new community events to activate the space and featured it extensively in marketing materials such as publications and videos. However, the business community sought more direct promotional material of their neighbourhood.

The challenge was to be inclusive of all businesses, nearly 30, while specifically promoting the tourism and customer service businesses. In addition to the postcard, a business directory was added to the City of Pickering website and a link was included on the postcard so that all businesses were included. The target audience is primarily tourists/ visitors to Pickering who are exploring other neighbourhoods and places to visit while they are in the City or Region. Businesses were also provided postcard that they can give out to customers to mail to friends and family members.

However, while the postcard was meant to promote tourism in the area, it is also a way to build community in the area amongst businesses and to help further the identity of the Nautical Village as a destination to visitors and locals alike.

Staff received tremendous feedback by visitors and businesses and have already scheduled a reprint due to interest and new developments.
