Purpose of Project: The Middlesex County Culinary Guide was developed to celebrate and promote the diverse culinary landscape of our region. In addition to showcasing local restaurants, caterers, breweries, cideries, and agri-business operators, our primary goal was to highlight and integrate local ingredients and products into the guide. This initiative showcases the farm-to-table journey, fostering community pride in our local food scene and promoting sustainable agriculture. Anticipated outcomes included enhancing tourism, supporting local businesses, and enriching community engagement with our agricultural heritage.
Effectiveness / Meeting Objectives: The culinary guide has proven highly effective in achieving its objectives. It has facilitated increased visibility and patronage for featured establishments, resulting in positive feedback from all the businesses we’ve had participate in the guide. There will be a total of 2500 copies printed and distributed to 10 tourism kiosks through the county, as well as at the restaurants that are featured in the guide. Tourism London will also be helping promote this to people living in their urban area. The culinary guide will also be available online as a PDF flip book.
Challenges & Changes Made: Despite initial challenges in coordinating with stakeholders, compiling comprehensive listings, and developing recipes that highlight local ingredients, we successfully navigated these hurdles through collaborative partnerships and stakeholder engagement initiatives. Regular updates and conversations with lower tier municipalities helped ensure accuracy and relevance of information with regards to establishments included in the guide, enhancing the guide’s user experience. Another change has been the addition of country flags beside the restaurant and recipes to indicate the culture of the cuisine being highlighted.
Target Audience: The guide targets residents and visitors of Middlesex County, encompassing a diverse demographic including food enthusiasts, tourists, event planners, and local businesses. By spotlighting establishments across a variety of cultural cuisine styles and incorporating local ingredients into recipes, the guide seeks to cater to the interests and needs of a broad audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for our local food, beverage and agri-tourism offerings. Many different cultures are represented in the culinary guide, with a new addition this year being flags beside the recipes and restaurants that represent the country of origin the cuisine is from.
Specifics as detailed in the Awards Categories: The Middlesex County Culinary Guide aligns with the Advertising Award Category by exemplifying innovation in promoting local gastronomy, enhancing regional identity, and advocating for sustainable agricultural practices. It embodies the spirit of community collaboration and economic development through its comprehensive coverage of culinary enterprises and agri-farm operators within our county.
Sustainability of Your Project: Our commitment to sustainability is integral to the guide’s ongoing success. By promoting local establishments and agri-farm operators, we support sustainable agricultural practices and reduce environmental impact associated with food transportation. The integration of local ingredients into featured recipes encourages consumers to make informed, environmentally conscious choices while fostering a resilient local economy built on ethical and sustainable food production practices.
