2019 Invest Durham Annual Report

The 2019 Invest Durham Annual Report is a high-level summary of the activities undertaken by the various sections of the Region of Durham Economic Development and Tourism Division to inform the local community on important economic development initiatives. Produced in-house, this accessible Annual Report includes an economic snapshot, and features spotlights on entrepreneurship and innovation initiatives, sector development initiatives, highlights from Sport Durham and Film Durham, as well as awards and recognized achievements. In raising awareness of the activities of economic development and the importance of its role in the community, the 2019 Invest Durham Annual Report simplifies the work of the Division in a visually appealing way. Utilizing our just-launched Invest Durham branding, this piece sets the tone for future communications with fresh, personable copy and showcases our bold new colours. As part of our collective effort to reduce our footprint and reliance on printed materials, this report was created to be an online-only publication.

The target demographic for this report was local and regional council members, the local business community and potential investors. The report was distributed as part of a council information package, going live March 13, 2020. It was also posted to the InvestDurham.ca website. However, shortly after this document was published, a state of emergency was declared and we immediately pivoted towards boots on the ground activities to support the local business community, forming the Durham Economic Task Force with an inaugural meeting March 12. As we focused on connecting with our stakeholders to help the business community navigate the pandemic, this report wasn’t promoted in social media or e-newsletters as doing so could have been perceived as tone-deaf. For this reason, we do not have metrics on the reach of this document due to the unfortunate timing of its publishing. However, the messaging of this marketing piece still resonates because, “At the heart of what we do—and why we do it—is our team’s support for the growth and prosperity of our community.”
