The City of Red Deer is seeking a new City Manager to lead and be responsible for the overall administration of The City’s approximately 1,400 employees, and to provide the link between City Council and administration, the community, and other levels of government. The City Manager will lead the development, maintenance, and implementation of effective long-range planning that provides vision and direction for The City and the community. Collaborating with City Council in the design and evaluation of the strategic plan, the City Manager will identify critical issues, objectives and strategies that will chart the future vision of the role The City will play in meeting the needs of its various constituencies, as well as operationalizing that vision. The City Manager will foster a positive and performance-oriented culture that supports a strong customer service-based relationship with the residents and businesses of Red Deer to expand The City’s economic base and quality of life.
The ideal candidate is community orientated with a post-secondary degree in public administration, business administration, or a related discipline, coupled with a minimum of 5+ years of executive leadership experience in a public sector environment. With a history of collaboration and achieving measurable results, they will possess the ability to link strategic planning to operational and business objectives while building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders. The successful candidate is a transformational leader and mentor who exhibits effective political acumen and communication skills with the ability to engage, innovate, lead change, and inspire.
