Chief Executive Officer – Odgers Berndtson / 2021 Canada Summer Games

2021 Canada Games Host Society

MOBILIZE A COMMUNITY IN SUPPORT OF CANADA’S ATHLETES

Chief Executive Officer

In August of 2021, the Region of Niagara will host the 2021 Canada Summer Games. As Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Games, you will be a community builder, a standard bearer and an inspirational leader.

Approximately 5,000 athletes, coaches and managers from 13 provinces and territories will gather to compete, in 17 different sports, in an event that will create opportunity and excitement for the whole Region. As CEO, you will select your own high performance team to plan, organize, market and finance this multi-event celebration of our country’s dedicated young athletes. Reporting to an independent Board of Directors representing the Canada Games Host Society, you will oversee an operating budget of $35 million and a significant capital budget for new and upgraded sport infrastructure.

The spirit of co-operation and regional pride have brought together all of the communities that make up the Region of Niagara. Together, they will look to you for inclusive leadership with governments, sponsors, 6,000 volunteers, project managers, local business communities and the ticket-buying public. It will be your mission to ensure that the Games deliver on the promise of bringing many tangible and intangible benefits to the host communities. You will inspire the Region to embrace and support the Games with zeal. You will be a mentor to your Canada Games team, with a particular concern to provide younger members with opportunities to build their skills and employability.

In addition to planning, creating policy and ensuring venues are place, you will lead revenue generation programs, including sponsorships and other fundraising initiatives. Be a visible and eloquent cheerleader among stakeholders and the public. Encourage a collaborative organizational culture based on shared values and high performance. Act as a steward for the Canada Games as it introduces the country’s elite young athletes and prepares them to excel on the world stage.  Make the Region proud.

An experienced senior executive with experience working with a Board, you are a compelling public speaker, accustomed to inspiring volunteers and adept at those chief executive skills needed to manage a complex, time sensitive enterprise.
